The United Nations celebrates after a few days.
World Hepatitis Day
This year’s theme is “For a future free of hepatitis,” with a strong focus on protecting mothers and newborns from hepatitis B (hepatitis B virus). On July 28, the organization will issue new recommendations on preventing mother-to-child transmission. Newborns from hepatitis B virus can be protected with the use of a safe and effective vaccine.
The World Hepatitis Day, which falls on 28 July, is an opportunity to strengthen national and international efforts to combat hepatitis, encourage action and the participation of individuals, partners and the public, and highlight the need to maximize the global response as stated in the WHO Global Report on Inflammation Liver of 2017.
It was chosen on July 28 because it marks the birth anniversary of Nobel Prize-winning scientist Dr. Barouk Polberg, who is credited with discovering the hepatitis B virus and developing a test for his diagnosis and an anti-vaccine.
There are five main strains of the hepatitis virus: A, B, C, D, and E. Combined hepatitis B and C are the most common causes of death, with 1.4 million deaths annually. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, viral hepatitis continues to kill thousands of people every day
The lowest level of coverage for diagnostic and treatment testing is the most important gap that must be closed in order to achieve the goals of eliminating the disease in the world by 2030
